Constitution
Article I—Name
The name of the organization shall be the San Augustine Garden Club.
Article II—Purpose
The purpose for which this club is organized is to stimulate interest in, and a knowledge of different forms of gardening, particularly the building of private gardens and the general improvement of home grounds; also to promote a general civic improvement in this city and its environs.
Article III—Qualification of Membership
Any person who evidences a sincere interest in the purpose for which the organization is formed is eligible for membership and may become a member by first attending a meeting as a guest and then having her name presented to the membership committee for action of the Club.
Section 1.
The Membership-Telephone Committee shall consist of three members to be appointed by the President, not later than one month in advance of the first meeting of the year.
Section 2.
Dues shall be paid at the beginning of the Club year. New members shall pay their dues upon entering.
Section 3.
Members absent three (3) times in succession without lawful excuse shall be dropped from the roll.
Section 4.
This Club shall consist of not more than 44 active members.
Section 5.
When the membership is filled, a waiting list shall be maintained by the Secretary in order of the presentation of names.
Section 6.
Honorary membership shall be a former member of this organization in recognition of her long service, continued interest in gardening and support of civic improvements in this city and its environs whose name is submitted for majority approval of this honor at a regular meeting.
Section 7.
Sustaining membership shall be a current or former member who shall not be counted as an active member, with guest privileges at monthly meetings and Garden Club events. Sustaining members shall pay dues of $25.00 and may be called upon to participate in Club projects only as their time, talent or health permits. A member can become a sustainer by making the request in writing to the club.
Article IV—Officers and Elections
Section 1.
The officers of this Club shall be a President, First and Second Vice Presidents, Recording Secretary, Treasurer and Parliamentarian. The Historian and Chairman of Standing Committees shall be appointed by the President.
Section 2.
All officers shall be elected at the annual meeting held in January of odd years, and shall continue in term of office for two years, or until their successors are elected and installed, with their term of office to begin at the end of the Club year.
Section 3.
Vacancies in offices may be filled at a business meeting in the same manner as the annual meeting.
Section 4.
All officers upon retiring from their office shall deliver to their successors all money, reports, and property belonging to the Club.
Section 5.
The officers and chairmen of the Standing Committees shall constitute the Board of Directors.
Article V—Meetings
The monthly meeting shall be held on the second Thursday of the month from September through May and at such place and hour as shall be determined by the Board of Directors.
Article VI—Amendments
The Constitution may be amended by a two-thirds vote at any regular meeting if the proposed amendments have been read at the previous meeting.
